    Problem Report Number 1388
    Submitter's Classification Test Suite problem
    State Resolved
    Resolution Test Suite Deficiency (TSD)
    Problem Resolution ID TSD.X.0670
    Raised 1970-01-01 08:00
    Updated 2003-03-13 08:00
    Published 1996-08-28 08:00
    Product Standard Internationalised System Calls and Libraries Extended (UNIX 95)
    Certification Program The Open Brand certification program
    Test Suite VSU version 4.1.0
    Test Identification CAPIbase/fsyslog 2
    Problem Summary TSD4U.00147 This test fails intermittently when the timestamp created by the syslog call is a second later than the timestamp expected by the program.
    Problem Text
    This assertion is failing (very rarely) on our system when we have
    a very heavy workload running, and the failure is timing related,

    Increasing the value of VSU_MACHINE_PERFORMANCE does not resolve
    this timing related failure.

    This assertion tests to verify that the logged messages created
    by a call to syslog() shall include (among other things) a
    timestamp. You can see from the journal, that a timestamp is
    included it is just 1 second after the "expected" value of
    the timestamp that was created by:
    fd2=popen(datecmd,"r");
    fgets(timestamp,512,fd2);
    before syslog() was called, and subsequently stat() was called
    to get the timestamp info of the logged message. Under a very heavy
    load these time stamps may differ by 1 second, but the requirement
    of this assertion is passed, namely that we include a timestamp.
    Test Output
    TEST PURPOSE #2
    The logged messages created by a call to
    void syslog(int priority, const char *message, ... /*
    argument */) shall include a message header consisting
    of a facility indicator, a severity level indicator, a
    timestamp, a tag string, and optionally the process ID.
    PREP: Close logging facility
    PREP: Start logging facility
    PREP: Call openlog()
    PREP: Call setlogmask()
    PREP: Open file to which messages are sent
    PREP: Send message using syslog
    PREP: Wait for syslog output
    TEST: Message received against expected format
    ERROR: Message did not match expected result
    Timestamp "Aug 22 12:27:31" missing
    Received = Aug 22 12:27:32 OEBRAND APTEST syslog2: This is a test
